We made it! Onto the Vain-ity Fair magazine cover. LOL!

We are a bunch of millennials, who think we are already aging fast, while also denying this fact. And in the recent years, we realised we can do much better with our poses and attires in pictures, and now try to be more deliberate about them for our gatherings.

This is short post to share on how we coordinated our friends gathering for better pictures. Mainly through simple colour coordination and intentional location selections.

Examples:

Looks:

For attire coordination, if you'd like some starting ideas, here's a short list:

  • Colour palettes
    • Tip: One person can decide for the group based on the outfit they intend to wear.
  • Pantone colour of the year
  • By theme: Retro, traditional, neon, Vanity Fair, sporty, suits
  • By prints: floral, animal, stripes, polkadots, tribal
  • By accessories: Hats, scarves, kicks, watches
  • By outfit material: flowy, leather, faux fur, denim
  • By emulating celebrity groups attire: k-pop, m-pop, movie, music videos, theatre
Scrolling Pinterest for inspo helps. Try it!

Poses:

Our go-to poses:

  1. The usual: Smile to the camera
  2. The hahaha: Fake laughing like you're heard a good joke from each other
  3. The vogue: Smize, not smile.
  4. Make triangles: Make bent angles (nicely) with the different joints you have - neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, fingers, waist, knees, ankles. E.g. elbow on your friend's shoulder, the thinking pose, hand on waist, hand in pocket.
  5. The flamingo (for girls, especially): Bend your knees like you gonna kick someone in the crotch. LOL
  6. Bodily pains: Similar to 4, grab your head, neck, shoulder elbow, wrist, waist like it's hurt. Or if you're sitting, hold your knee or ankle.
  7. Look elsewhere: Smile or not, look at each other, look faraway, just don't look at the camera.
  8. The huddle: Squeeze in tight and hug each other like its our last gathering

We've been to a few places for the gram, these are some recommended spots in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.

I'm pretty sure anyone with a good eye for photo can capture good photos anywhere!

We are still learning and winging this as we go, but it is good to have feedback from our group as we are doing this, as everyone loves a good pic of themselves.

The motto we try to remind ourselves is: We are at our youngest today!
